1) Identification of Ethical Dilemma in Global Environment: The quality of life is one of many ethical dilemmas seen globally. The quality of life can be described as â€Å"the degree to which a person enjoys the important possibilities of his/her life. Possibilities result from the opportunities and limitations each person has in his/her life and reflect the interaction of personal and environmental factors. Enjoyment has two components: the experience of satisfaction and the possession or achievement of some characteristic (The Global Development Researcher Center).† A person cannot experience these things if he/she is overworked. Promoting workers’ well-being isn’t just ethical; it makes economic sense. Fostering positive inner lives sometimes requires leaders to b etter articulate meaning in the work for everyone across the organization (Teresa Amabile, 2011).† Setting a workweek limit is part of promoting workers’ well-being, therefore, I do not think that the French parliament should have eliminated the 35- hour workweek limit. A better option would be to have changed the limit to 40-hours per workweek, along with other implications. I believe that the limit served as a reminder to allow each person time for rest and enjoyment of life. As the Ethical Dilemma article states, the 35-hour maximum puts the decision of how much to work in the employee’s hands. This may be so, but I believe it to be fair for the employee to decide how much he/she works as long as the employee meets the minimum amount of work hours required and does not exceed the workweek hour limit. A recent study found that â€Å"of 1,200 American adults, 18 percent worked 60 hours or more every week, with another 21 percent claiming to work between 50 and 59 hours. Answers: 1.Effects of price ceiling on Demand and supply. A price ceiling occurs when a cap is put by the government to put a legal limit on the price of a particular product. In this case, the federal government of the island of Experimentia has put price ceiling on tertiary education and it has highly regulated the education sector. This is because the federal government wanted to keep the education cost to be low(Perry, 2010). However, in order for the effective price ceiling to work the prices must be set to be below the natural market equilibrium. A shortage occurs immediately when the price ceiling is set. When a price ceiling is set by the federal government, there is more demand than there is at the prices set at equilibrium. The supply is also less than the prices at equilibrium prices thus the quantity that is demanded is more than the quantity that is in supply(Vanichjakvong, 2002). The government has put price ceiling on tertiary education so that the people cannot be exploited by paying high cost on the education services. The effect of this ceiling on demand is that it creates more demand on education and therefore stretching the resources of education facilities. The supply remains low for the tertiary education. Effects on prices are that due to the government regulation, the prices will be constant as the regulation seeks to set the prices fixed. Inefficiencies occur when the marginal benefit tends to exceed the marginal cost at the ceiling cost for the quantity supplied(Dasgupta, 2010) 2.Price changes and effect on supply demand and price. Fundamentally prices affect the market. Demand and supply are affected by changes in prices of a commodity. The federal republic of Experimentia removed the price cap ceiling and this was the net effect of the market. If the prices are regulated the demand and supply will determine the net effect in quantity demanded and supplied. This is shown in that, if the demand for tertiary education is high, the prices will remain high due to many people willing to get the services or get into the schools. If the supply is high, the prices will fall as many tertiary institutions will lower their prices to attract more students or buyers in the market. The reverse will be true and the , the lower the supply the higher the prices as the demand will increase for tertiary education. The effect on prices will depend on whether the demand is high or low and whether the supply is high or low. 3.Compare the consequences of this deregulation under the assumption of elastisticity and inelasticity of supply Elastic supply This paper deals with the problems of the construction of education as an eventual discipline as well as its self-regulation, particularly at the level of its program, considering the way it has been given in Australia. The origin of the article has to do with a previous research in which the author participated and in the realization that what he calls education easily obtains the status of discipline. Not only international classifications point it this way, 2 but it is usually assumed the same in the university world, without asking more about what is and what constitutes a discipline(Forstater, 2007). Beyond a mere intellectual curiosity, the above has important social consequences, because it means that tertiary education, in such field of knowledge, cannot be regulated from the demand of its practitioners or from the offer of the field of producers of that area of knowledge, a situation that - at least in the Australian case - is deepened by aspects related to the cultural capital of the applicants of such studies, compared to other areas of knowledge or disciplines. The consequences in inelastic supply are that education will be curtailed. People will pay more due to a higher demand of tertiary education. 4.Policy change will affect the efficiency of the tertiary education market Efficiency in a tertiary education market will increase. Price liberalization and deregulation of government policy will lead to consumer awareness on quality education provided by the tertiary education(Gilman, 2006). School prices will be based on the quality of education that an institution provides. In this effect, many will increase the prices while other will remain at the relative prices that had been set during the cap. Due to the level of education that is provided, many will opt to go for quality education albeit high prices to get the best education. The efficiency of tertiary education in the market will be increased due to a liberal approach in pricing and deregulation. Price capping or price ceiling policy reduces efficiency in the tertiary education market while price liberalization policy increases efficiency in the tertiary education market(Peterson, 2014). 5.Policy change will affect the equity of the tertiary education market Policy changes in pricing of tertiary education ensure that market demand and supply forces comes into force(Yu, 2012). In this case , market liberalization of prices ensures that equity increases in schools that offer quality tertiary education services while those that provide less quality education reduces in equity. This is because the law of demand and supply will ensure that most students go to tertiary institutions with quality education leading to increased demand and increased prices. On the other hand, those institutions that offer less quality will see their demand fall and they will be forced to lower their education prices to entice more students to join them. Endocrine System Essay The Endocrine System The body requires information in order to develop properly and maintain physiological balance. In order for the body to develop properly and maintain physiological balance it requires many different types of information. The endocrine system is one way in which these communications happen. By using hormones, organs and tissues alike contribute to the regulation of bodily processes. Hormones are chemicals that the endocrine glands excrete into intercellular spaces that then diffuse into the bloodstream. There are two types of hormones that affect how the individual hormone reacts to its specific target cell: non-steroid and steroid. Steroid hormones are lipid soluble and pass through the cell membranes, where they bind to receptors within the cells and attach to DNA molecules to activate genes (Alcamo, 2003). Because protein, or non-steroid, hormones are not lipid soluble, they must instigate chemical changes by binding to hormone receptors at the plasma membrane of their target cells. This triggers chemical reactions that activate the second messengers, molecules that continue carrying the information, for the â€Å"message† to be processed within the cell (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). In the second-messenger mechanism, it may help to remember that the non-steroid hormone acts as the first messenger, and the molecules activated by the non-steroid hormone re acting with the receptor at the cell membrane are the second messengers. The primary purpose of hormones is to affect changes in various body systems in order to create developmental changes. They are also responsible for maintaining the balance of the body as a whole. For example, the hormone epinephrine (commonly known as adrenaline), produced by the medulla of the adrenal glands, affects the sympathetic nervous system as part of a response to stress (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). While epinephrine is not currently considered a hormone that is required for living, it is one that promotes homeostasis by providing immediate bodily response to cope and survive in perceived emergency situations. The endocrine system is composed of organs and ductless glands that facilitate body development and homeostasis (Walker Wood, 2003).The primary organs of the endocrine system include the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, pineal gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, thymus gland, adrenal glands, sex glands, and the pancreas. Many other organs also function in some capacity as part of the endocrine system (Davis, 2006). They may utilize typical hormones or prostaglandins, which are hormones used by tissues in order to act upon other cells within the tissue (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). The pituitary gland has been, and still often is, thought of as the â€Å"master gland† because of its role controlling the functions of many of the other endocrine glands. The pituitary gland is actually two parts: the adenohypophysis (the anterior pituitary gland), and the neurohypophysis (the posterior pituitary gland). The adenohypophysis is composed of glandular tissue and releases growth hormone (GH), prolactin, and tropic hormones that control other endocrine glands. GH promotes the breaking down of fat while slowing down the catabolism of glucose, and supports normal growth (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). Prolactin, also known as lactogenic hormone, promotes breast development and lactation in the pregnant and nursing mother. The tropic hormones secreted by the adenohypophysis are: thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH). TSH stimulates growth of the thyroid gland and release of thyroid hormones. ACTH acts as TSH does with the thyroid, but for the adrenal cortex and glucocorticoids. FSH, in females, affects the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles, ovulation, and stimulates estrogen. In males, FSH stimulates sperm production. LH, like FSH, works on the reproductive organs. In females it acts with FSH to increase estrogen secretion from follicles, help follicles and ovum mature, and cause ovulation. LH also stimulates luteinization and the production of progesterone in women, and is sometimes called the â€Å"ovulating hormone† (Thibodeau Patton, 2008). For men, LH acts to instigate the development and secretion of testosterone. The posterior portion of the pituitary gland, the neurohypophysis, is made up of nervous tissue. This gland secretes anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) and oxytocin when signaled to do so by the nervous system (Walker Wood, 2003). ADH helps regulate the electrolyte balance of the body by reducing the amount of fluid urinated -as it increases how much water is reabsorbed into the body from the kidneys. Oxytocin promotes a positive feedback loop, temporarily encouraging the disruption of homeostasis, by stimulating uterine contractions during childbirth. Oxytocin also affects the cells of milk-filled breasts to encourage lactation by causing the breast milk to flow. The hypothalamus is the main reason the pituitary gland no longer has the same reputation for being the dominant endocrine gland. This is because the hypothalamus, in effect, regulates much of the pituitary gland. On top of producing the hormones the neurohypophysis secretes, the hypothalamus itself secretes hormones that act on the adenohypophysis of the pituitary gland: inhibiting and releasing hormones. The thyroid gland produces and stores the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), as well as secretes calcitonin. T4 and T3 increase the rate cells metabolize energy. Calcitonin promotes calcium balance in the blood by inhibiting the breakdown of bone. The parathyroid glands are located on the posterior side of the thyroid gland and are responsible for parathyroid hormone (PTH), also known as parathormone (Alcamo, 2003). PTH acts in the opposite regard as calcitonin and increases blood calcium levels by stimulating bone resorption. The thymus gland releases hormones for the development and differentiation of T cells, and is most productive in children as it is responsible for the development of the immune system. The hormones currently known to work for the thymus gland are: thymosin, thymopoietin, thymulin, thymic humoral factor, interleukins, and interferon (Eroschenko, 2008). The pineal gland regulates the internal clock through melatonin. Melatonin inhibits the adenohypophysis in releasing gonadotropins (Alcamo, 2003). Its secretion is controlled by the amount of light the eyes register. The adrenal glands are located on top of each kidney. They consist of the adrenal medulla, the core of the adrenal gland, and the outer portion of the adrenal gland known as the adrenal cortex. The adrenal medulla is the part that secretes epinephrine and norepinephrine in order to support the body in stressful situations. The adrenal cortex is made up of three layers: the outer layer (zona glomerulosa), the middle, or second, layer (zona fasciculate), and the zona reticularis -the third, innermost layer (Alcamo, 2003). The hormones these layers release are corticoids. More specifically, the corticoids each layer secretes are the mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, and sex hormones, respectively. Mineralcorticoids help maintain electrolyte balance. Glucocorticoids aid in the process of gluconeogenesis, which is a process whereby liver cells convert amino and fatty acids into glucose to increase blood glucose levels. The sex hormones secreted by the zona reticularis are androgens. The testes are the sex glands in the male and the ovaries in the female. The testes secrete the hormone testosterone from their interstitial spaces, or the spaces between the cells. Testosterone is a steroid hormone that regulates the secondary sex characteristics of males (Alcamo, 2003). Ovaries consist of two structures that have endocrine functions. The corpus luteum secretes primarily progesterone, but also secretes some estrogen, while the ovarian follicles secrete estrogen. Estrogen has many roles the females system, and contributes to maturation of the female reproductive organs, maintaining pregnancy, preparing the breasts for lactation, and developing the secondary sex characteristics (Walker Wood, 2003). Progesterone essentially serves to prepare the uterus for pregnancy. The pancreas acts as both an endocrine and exocrine gland. Its endocrine functions are extremely important to regulating blood glucose and ensuring cells receive sufficient energy. The pancreas has islet cell clusters, known as islets of Langerhans, which contain alpha, beta, and delta cells (Alcamo, 2003). The alpha cells secrete glucagon, which acts to increase blood glucose levels. The beta cells secrete the hormone insulin. Insulin behaves antagonistically to glucagon, so it acts to reduce glucose levels in the blood. The role of somatostatin, the hormone released by the delta cells, is still unclear, although its considered to affect the secretion of both insulin and glucagon (Alcamo). Other organs and tissues not immediately associated as endocrine organs also use hormones to regulate their functions. Among these organs are the heart and the kidneys. The heart produces atrial natriuretic hormone (ANH) to help regulate sodium in the blood, while kidneys have endocrine cells that release the hormone erythropoietin, helping bone marrow produce red blood cells (Davis, 2006). Research continues to teach new things about the endocrine system. Recently, in 2007, researchers at Columbia University Medical Center determined that the skeleton also performs endocrine functions by regulating blood sugar (Ballantyne). Until research reveals new information, it can be hard to define how much is still unknown about the endocrine system. Additionally, there are unanswered question concerning what is currently known such as â€Å"what is the purpose of androgens in males?† and â€Å"what does somatostatin really do? The structure of the endocrine system is unique in that most of its organs arent actually physically attached to each other. Another interesting attribute of this system is that many other body systems also contribute to endocrine functions. This allows for the organs to communicate more quickly in localized systems, such as in the case of endocrine functions in the digestive system. The endocrine system serves to communicate with a broader group of cells, more gradually and more long-term, than the other primary communication system of the body: the nervous system (Walker Wood, 2003). The Role of Nonprofit Organizations in Compensating for Market Failure ABSTRACT: This paper reviews three social scientific accounts of the civic sector's role in society: the government failure, contract failure, and voluntary failure theories. All three explain the role of nonprofit organizations as compensating for the market's failure to provide certain collective goods. This approach involves a radical misinterpretation of the underlying principles of civic sector organizations. An account is needed that explains their economy in terms of their normative concerns, rather than explaining normative concerns in terms of their economy. I lay a foundation for such an account by examining (1) the self-understanding among civic sector organizations that they should be "mission-driven," and (2) the implications of this self-understanding for the sector as a "social economy." Whereas "mission-drivenness" calls attention to service-provision, resource-sharing, and open communication as the normative core of civic sector organizations, the notion of a "social economy" suggests a recirculation of money into channels where standard economic logic no longer holds. The key to the civic sector's role lies not in responses to market failure, but in the short-circuiting of a money-driven capitalist economy. Three trends will shape the future of education around the world: the revolution in information technologies, the crisis of the welfare state, and the globalization of a consumer capitalist economy. In the face of such powerful developments on a massive scale, philosophy's efforts toward "educating humanity" (1) can seem both presumptuous and quixotic: presumptuous, because much of philosophy has given up global theorizing of sort ... ...n producers and consumers, or among consumers. (11) Civic sector organizations are under tremendous pressure to bend their communicative capacities for the sake of sales, advertising, marketing, and public relations strategies whose primary objective is the promotion and preservation of the organization itself. While such strategies are necessary, openness suffers when communication subserves these strategies rather than these strategies themselves submitting to tests for open communication.

Two vastly different words with Two vastly different meanings Ignorance and Stupidity are words that are commonly used out of context and either word is often mistakenly used in the others rightful place. Ignorance is commonly mistaken for stupidity in society. Just as commonly, stupidity can be denied and termed as ignorance. To say that these words are one in the same is ignorance in and of its self, that is if one is uninformed of the true definitions of either word. When one has been informed of the correct definition and still uses the term out of context well, that is an example of stupidity. For many reasons these two words have two vastly different meanings which can be easily contrasted with some thought. Ignorance can be defined as having no knowledge or information in ones mind of a specific subject. Ignorance is the result of a lack of education, one can not be expected to have the correct response when exposed to something they are uneducated on. For example, a male student walks into his college math class half an hour late. He sits down and is then handed a quiz on calculus and instructed to finish the quiz in fifteen minutes. He hasn’t read any of the chapter on calculus assigned last week and he has missed the lecture on calculus that his teacher gave at the beginning of the class. This is the first he has heard of calculus and he has had no prior experience in the subject. Therefore the student was ignorant on the subject. He failed the quiz because of his ignorance. The student may have retained the information given on calculus well and aced the test had he obtained that information. Ignorance is also a term used to describe being unaware of something. Such as, when a good friend of mine bill ate crab legs for the first time he was ignorant to the fact that he was allergic to shellfish. His throat itched then swelled and he was quickly rushed to the E. R that night. Know he is no longer ignorant to that fact. Other words to describe ignorance are uninformed, unlearned, uneducated and unwitting . Stupidity can be defined as a lack of intelligence. When one lacks intelligence they lack the ability to think and learn. They also lack the ability to apply information that they have been given. Stupidity can also be described as a lack of perception, not using the senses or lacking common sense. When one does not think logically or chooses not to make practical judgments based on the experience they already posses that is stupidity. Stupidity is expressed in irrational or thoughtless behavior. Such as the story given earlier of the male college student who didn’t study he showed an example of ignorance by having no knowledge of the subject he was being quizzed on. He also showed an example of stupidity. He would not have been ignorant had he studied. He was not ignorant to the fact that he had a chapter to read or of the time he was to be in class he just stupidly chose not to read the chapter just as he stupidly chose to be late for class. Because of this thoughtless, stupid behavior he was left ignorant. Other words to describe stupidity are foolish, senseless, witless and idiotic. Ignorance is a term used to describe ones unknowing, as to say he is ignorant of a subject not because he is stupid but because he lacks knowledge of that subject. It is a term that should never be used to insult and just as well should never be taken that way. There is no one person who possess no ignorance at all, we all have things we are ignorant of. Benjamin Franklin once said â€Å" being ignorant is not so much a shame as being unwilling to learn†. One can attempt to dispel there ignorance by seeking out and the proper Knowledge and education. Once they obtain the proper information and knowledge then they are no longer ignorant of the subject. Stupidity is a term used as an insult and can usually be correctly perceived as one. When a person uses the term stupid to describe another they are usually placing the blame of thoughtlessness or another negative trait such as foolishness on that other person. Fools rush in where fools been before† Unknown. While ignorance can be dispelled as quickly as one can learn, stupidity seems to be a pattern or bad habit that even the most educated people tend to exhibit. It can take a lot longer for some to get rid of there stupidity then for others to gain knowledge and rid of there ignorance. These terms have been defined enough to show why they are two vastly different words wi th two vastly different meanings and are expected to be used wisely.

The federal administration also offered for the Peace Corps to conduct a research and to create a number of baselines which would measure results of the volunteers work in the countries where the Peace Corps operates. This data would also help understand the level of the promotion of Americans on the countries they served in (Program Assessment). Besides of the assessment program offered by the federal government, the Peace Corps agency has created a strategic plan (2009-2014) and performance plan (2009-2011). In accordance with this plan, the following recommendations should be stated. Firstly, the agency should increase the number of the similar organizations which can be helpful for the Peace Corps in skill needs. Secondly, the understanding of Americans in different parts of the world should be better promoted by volunteers. Thirdly, to promote more outreach directed at Americans and their attitude to other people on the territory of the USA . For example, â€Å"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.† The blessing Jesus spoke of would not require money, or power, or authority; the blessing he offered would be free for those willing to follow his instructions. In exchange for their obedience, god would reward them, but more importantly it said, â€Å"God is your father!† This message of hope and the way in which Jesus spoke with authority would undoubtedly win over many of those whose hearts were hardened. After gaining their trust, Jesus continued with many examples of Proper Christian living. Key #1—Pray Sincerely to the True God It is absolutely vital that you pray to the very real God of the Bible if you expect genuine answers to your prayers. He reveals Himself to mankind in many ways—in creation, in the Bible, in His foretelling specific divine intervention in world affairs and in direct ANSWERS to those who seek and obey Him through fervent holy worship. In our modern, ecumenical (worldwide) approach to religion, we may think that praying to some vague â€Å"blob† in the sky or to an idol of Buddha is just the same as praying to the CREATOR—the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Israel and Jesus Christ, but it is not the same at all! The true God was revealed by Jesus Christ (Matthew 11:27). To one of His disciples, He said, â€Å"Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known ME†¦? We read of Jesus Christ acknowledging that God was a loving, divine Person—a â€Å"Father. And we see the Father acting through Christ to heal the sick, to comfort the downcast and to teach those whom He calls to keep not only the Ten Commandments, but all of His words as a way of life (Matthew 19:17). Christ also set an example for us in praying to the Father: â€Å"Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify Youâ€⠄¢Ã¢â‚¬  (John 17:1). We serve an awesome God, with limitless power and glory! When you get down on both knees and lift up your hands in prayer to the great CREATOR of the universe, you should think of to whom you are praying. Remember that He is not only the Creator, but also the active Sovereign ruler of the entire universe and the Bible says that it is God’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom and all that is contained in it. Be sure you always pray specifically to This God—the true God—and to no other. As you begin your prayer, think about whom you are praying to and consciously worship this Great God who gives you life and breath. Key # 2—Study the Bible It naturally follows that praying to the true God involves believing what He says. And we find His words—instructing human beings how they should live—in the Holy Bible. It reveals essential knowledge that we could not acquire in any other way. It is God’s â€Å"Instruction Manual† for humanity. It tells us who God is what He is like and how we ought to serve Him. In its pages we find God’s own instructions (not suggestions) as to how we ought to live for and pray to Him. You will not receive this full instruction by just â€Å"going to church† or by carelessly reading bits and pieces of the Bible for comfort or inspiration. God commands us in His Word, â€Å"Earnestly study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman unashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth† (2 Timothy 2:15). To know God, to understand His will and to believe in His promises, one needs to regularly study His inspired Word in an orderly way—just as you might study a science textbook or a volume on history. A good place to start is the book of Matthew. Read this through slowly and carefully—noting what Jesus actually said, paying particular attention to the many examples of answered prayer. Key #3—Deeply Repent of Your Sins Although from time to time God hears the prayers of anyone who sincerely cries out to Him in time of need, He is not bound by His Word to do this. God’s Word says, â€Å"Behold the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear dull, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear† (Isaiah 59:1-2). It is not our job to psychoanalyze or â€Å"spiritually dissect† those who have not had their prayers answered in the past. But we have a duty to ask ourselves: â€Å"Do I worship the true God? Do I do His will? Please be honest with yourself. It is easy to rationalize or to reason around this very clear scriptural teaching about obeying God’s law for having your prayers answered. As you grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18), He will live His life in you more and more fully over the course of your Christian life. Certainly you will not be perfect (mature) all at once, and no human being has ever been perfect (spotless) except Jesus Christ Himself. But you will be walking in the way of the Ten Commandments by surrendering to Him. By walking with Christ in this manner, you can be assured of having more powerful answers to your prayers than ever before. Key #4 Forgive Others Another vital key to answered prayer is our willingness to truly FORGIVE others. Frankly, our loving Father in heaven simply does not hear those who come to Him in a spirit of revenge, bitterness or hatred. Immediately after giving us the â€Å"Lord’s Prayer†Ã¢â‚¬â€the outline prayer describing the right general approach to talking with God—Jesus went on to instruct His followers: â€Å"If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also for give you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses neither will your Father for give your trespasses† (Matthew 6:14-15). And Psalm 66:18-20 says, â€Å"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: but verily (truly) God hath heard me: He hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be the God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me. † Key #5—Seek God’s Will Another key to successful prayer is to be absolutely sure that—as far as possible—you align your will and your requests with God’s will. As you zealously study the Bible and yield to let Christ live within you, His will increasingly replaces your own. It affects how you pray. You come to realize that God has made all men and women in His image—that He will call all mankind to understanding and repentance in His own time. With this in mind, you will not be praying just for your own good, but for the good of others as well. Then you can sincerely say to God, as Jesus did: â€Å"Not My will, but Yours be done† (Luke 22:42). Remember this key phrase from the outline prayer of Jesus in Matthew 6, â€Å"Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven† (v. 10). We all need to focus on this as we pray. What is really best for us and everyone concerned in the long run—only God knows for sure! On the other hand, the Bible contains literally dozens of promises and/or direct indications of what God has done or will do in regard to answered prayer. If we pray in faith that God will hear us—and in accordance to His will—we may be sure that He is listening. â€Å"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him† (1 John 5:14-15). Key #6—Have Faith in God The more you drink in of the Bible, the more deeply you will realize the importance of FAITH. But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him† (Heb. 11:6). The bottom line is that you cannot please God without Faith, and generally speaking, the Bible makes it crystal clear that God will not hear and answer your prayer s unless you come to Him in faith. â€Å"But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord† (James 1:6). We need to take careful note of this vital teaching of Jesus Christ with respect to prayer and faith: â€Å"Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you ask when you pray, BELIEVE that you receive them, and you WILL have them† (Mark 11:22-24). By continually drinking in of the Bible and praying for faith, you will find that your faith will increase more and more. Understand that living faith is produced by God’s Holy Spirit within us, and Jesus said, â€Å"If you then, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy spirit to those who ask Him! † (Lk. 11:13). God wants to give us those things we ask for if we humbly ask for them and our motives and priorities are not selfish ones. So we need to pray to Him continually to give us the FAITH we need. We need to learn to BELIEVE in the promises of God. We need to learn to believe that God is REAL—that He has perfect wisdom, perfect love and perfect POWER. Realize that He will KEEP all his promises! We need to learn to imitate Abraham, the father of the faithful (Romans 4:16), for he â€Å"did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also ABLE to perform† (Rom. 4:20-21). This is real faith. This is the attitude you must have to receive genuine answers to your prayers. Key # 7—Be Persistent If your child asks you just once for a bicycle and then seemingly forgets about it and never brings the subject up again how deep is his or her desire for it? How much do you think they would appreciate it if they did get one? And so it is when we ask for something from our Heavenly father. Before He supernaturally intervenes, God wants to know that we deeply desire whatever we ask for, and that we will respect and worship Him for answering our prayer. In other words, God uses our need or desire as a vehicle to draw us closer to Him, spiritually—to cause us to focus on His will and on what is really best for us and for any others who might be involved. If we carelessly ask for something, and then virtually forget that we ever did, what would that indicate? It might tell God that we are not all that interested in His doing what we ask! Or it could be that all our desires are shallow, perhaps constantly changing, and that we would not feel a deep sense of appreciation and worship even if He constantly answered such shallow prayers! (See Luke 18:1-8). God wants us to be persistent. He wants us to walk with Him, talk with Him and commune with Him continually—day after day in this age, and ultimately throughout eternity! The Apostle Paul instructs us to â€Å"pray without ceasing† (1 Thess. 5:17). David said in Psalm 55:16-17, â€Å"As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. † So pray regularly. Spend plenty of TIME communing with Jesus Christ and your Heavenly Father. And never—EVER—stop praying to God! For, in more ways than one, your very life depends upon this contact! Key #8—Pray Fervently In Hosea 7:14 God cites as one of the reasons He did not hear the prayers of ancient Israel was that â€Å"and they have not cried unto Me with their heart. The Moffatt translation of this same verse reads, â€Å"They never put their Heart into their prayers. † What about us? Do you and I pray with our entire being? Or do we just rattle off a memorized prayer like some pagan chant or perhaps sleepily mumble a few half-hearted requests to God just before drifting off to sleep? Again, remember Jesus’ example of getting up early to pray to the Father. For prayer was vitally important to Christ. That is why He apparently put it first on His schedule—before anything else could interfere. And he probably came back to God repeatedly as the day progressed. The Book of Hebrews tells us about Christ’s passionate, heartfelt prayers: â€Å"Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear† (Heb. 5:7). It is good to go to a private place to pray as Jesus instructed in Matthew 6. Alone, we can occasionally cry out to our temptations or difficulties where only the help of God Himself can fully take care of the situation. In Luke 22:44 Jesus was crying out to His Father in such an intense and passionate manner that some of His capillaries may have literally burst—filling certain sweat ducts with blood. In our modern secular, hedonistic, laid back society, we need to grasp that the truly vital issues of life are not material. Rather, they are spiritual—having to do with our Creator and with all eternity. They are certainly worthy of getting excited about. So let us put our hearts into our prayers. Let us be fervent! Let us be passionate as we pour out our hearts to the awesome Personality who wants to be our real Father: the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity† (Isaiah 57:15). Key #9—Ask God to Fashion and Mold You A genuine man or woman of God is one who has totally surrendered to the will of the Creator. Through the Prophet Isaiah God tells us: â€Å"But on this one will I look: on Him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word† (Isa. 66:2). This attitude of seeking God’s will rather than our own—of total submission to our Heavenly father—is vital to our prayer life if we are to receive constant and powerful answers. Do you want to truly grow spiritually? Listen to Ephesians 4:13: â€Å"Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. † If you’re serious about growing and becoming mature then we need to all â€Å"wrestle with God† in our prayers as Jacob literally wrestled with Him and prevailed (Gen. 32:24-32). We need to engage Him in long, thoughtful conversation about how we can more fully yield to Him, walk with Him in our lives. We need to constantly ask God to help us fulfill the great PURPOSE for which we were born. It is fine—within limits—to pray for physical things. BUT THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE OF PRAYER IS TO HELP US FOCUS ON GOD, YIELD TO HIM AND SURRENDER OUR WILL TO HIS AS WE CULTIVATE A VITAL INTERACTIVE RELATIONSHIP. In this way He becomes increasingly real to us. Through constant and heartfelt Bible Study and prayer we must seek God’s will. We must grasp that our past ideas and attitudes about God and religion in general need much improvement. This process will bring us to a point in our lives where we learn to walk with Him, talk with Him, quietly commune with Him off and on all day long. Sincerely ask Him to mold you into His own image. The approach of yielding to God as you pray, of asking Him to rebuke and chasten and fashion you, is one of the vital keys to really powerful prayer. Key #10—Give Praise and Thanks to Almighty God Another of the qualities that made King David a man after God’s own heart was the sincere love, worship and adoration that he continually expressed toward the great creator who blessed him, sustained him and guided him. The entire Book of Psalms is literally filled with David’s prayers of worship and adoration. Listen to Psalm 18:1-3, â€Å"I will love you, O Lord my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. † Fifty (50) verses and David never asked for one thing! All he does is give God praise and thanks for what He has already done. When was the last time you got down on your knees or walked on your feet and just gave God continuous repetitious praise and thanks for what He has already done? We need to constantly thank and praise God for every good gift and for His help and blessing in every situation (1 Thess. 5:18). Instead of losing control in our enthusiasm for sports figures, rock and rap stars or any other human idols, let us unashamedly pour out our whole being in thanking, praising and worshiping the God who made us and who gives us life and breath. This is the God who forgives us time and time and time again, who guides and blesses us, and who in the end—plans to share His eternal glory with us if we will only respond and learn to love Him as He loves us. Key #11—Pray in the Name of Jesus Christ To truly and correctly use Jesus’ name in prayer we must OBEY Him and again ask according to His will. Remember that in the Sermon on the Mount, Christ warned: â€Å"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Those who do not really know the true God or His way are simply not capable of properly coming before Him in the name of Jesus Christ. To pray in the name of Jesus is to approach the throne of God through the name—the office and authority of Jesus Christ who gives us access to the very throne room of God. So as you approach God in heartfelt, regular prayer, be sure you are obeying your Lord and Master Jesus Christ. Though He does not expect instant spiritual maturity, He does want us to walk in His way through the help of the Holy Spirit. When we do we can then come to the Father through Christ alone to make the direct contact of effective prayer. And remember, James said, â€Å"the effectual (unceasing) fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much† (James 5:16b). Key #12—EXPECT AN ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!
